In one of the busy hubs of Chennai and close to T. Nagar and Kodambakkam is the Vadapalani Murugan (Andavar) Temple. This is a highly esteemed place of worship located at Vadapalani, which means North Palani, in Chennai. The temple enshrines Lord Murugan as the chief presiding deity in a manner similar to the Palani (which is a most visited temple of Tamil Nadu). The magnificent 4 ft statuette of the presiding God is stunning to all eyes. Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvathi, (mother of Lord Murugan) and Lord Ganesha (Son of Shiva and Parvathi) are also worshipped here. This celebrated temple witnesses about 7,000 weddings once a year. The temple gathers huge crowd during the Skanda Shashti festival celebrated during the Tamil month of Aippasi.

Mylapore is one of the ancient places of Chennai, bearing an exclusive and devotional ambience. Legend quotes that in the olden days Mylapore was apparently forest where the peacocks danced blissfully. ‘Mayil’, in Tamil means Peacock and ‘Oor’ means town. Hence, the place derived the name Mylapore. The most striking feature of this place is the Kapaleeswarar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Mylapore is one of the busiest and noisiest areas of Chennai with its hustle bustle and busy ‘mada veedhis’ (street around the temple). However, once inside the temple you can experience the solitude and peaceful zone, irrespective of the chaos outside.
